NEET UG
A practical roadmap for students preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for undergraduate medical, dental, AYUSH and other programmes covered by the NEET admission framework.
What is NEET UG?
National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is the common national entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency for undergraduate medical education. The official 2026 bulletin states that NEET is used for admissions to MBBS and BDS and also applies to BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS under the respective regulatory frameworks.
The examination has also become an important route for other programmes and institutions that use NEET results under their applicable rules. The exact admission eligibility always depends on the course, institution, counselling authority and current regulations.
Important: Dates, eligibility, fees, syllabus and admission rules can change. The current NTA information bulletin and the applicable regulatory/counselling authority are the final sources.

NEET UG syllabus
The NEET syllabus covers Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The National Medical Commission notified the NEET UG 2026 syllabus, and the detailed syllabus is provided through the official NTA/NMC resources.
Physics
Build strong fundamentals and practise numerical applications. Focus on concepts, units, graphs, formula use and timed problem solving.
Chemistry
Balance physical chemistry numericals with inorganic concepts and organic reactions. Regular revision is essential because the subject mixes calculation and memory.
Biology
Study the prescribed Biology syllabus carefully, revise terminology and diagrams, and practise objective questions with close attention to textbook wording.
Best approach: Download the current official syllabus before making a long-term study plan. Do not assume that an old coaching list is identical to the current syllabus.

What happens after NEET?
Qualifying NEET is followed by counselling and seat allocation. NTA conducts the examination and provides the result/rank; counselling is handled by the competent authorities according to the type of seat and course.
MCC / DGHS counselling
MCC handles counselling for the seats and institutions covered by its national counselling framework, including specified All India Quota and central/deemed-university pathways.
State counselling
State and Union Territory authorities conduct counselling for seats under their control according to their applicable eligibility, reservation and domicile rules.
AYUSH counselling
AACCC is the counselling authority for applicable All India Quota admissions to BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS under the relevant framework.
Do not confuse qualifying NEET with getting a particular college or branch. Admission depends on rank, category, seat availability, counselling choices, applicable reservation and the rules of the concerned authority.
Courses and career pathways through NEET
NEET is primarily associated with medical admission, but its result is used across several undergraduate healthcare pathways under the applicable regulations.
- MBBS — Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
- BDS — Bachelor of Dental Surgery
- BAMS — Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery
- BHMS — Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery
- BUMS — Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery
- BSMS — Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery
- B.Sc. Nursing pathways where NEET is applicable under the relevant rules
- Other programmes or institutions that are permitted to use NEET results under their published criteria
Before choosing a course, compare the curriculum, duration, regulatory framework, internship requirements, fees, location and the actual work involved in the profession.
