The Making of a Scientist

1. How can one become a scientist, an economist, a historian...? Does it simply involve reading many books on the subject? Does it involve observing, thinking and doing experiments?

No, one cannot become a scientist, economist, historian, or expert in any field simply by reading many books. Books provide knowledge, but true expertise requires much more than theoretical learning.

To become a scientist, a person must develop qualities such as curiosity, observation, logical thinking, patience, and a willingness to experiment. Scientists carefully observe natural phenomena, ask questions, form hypotheses, conduct experiments, and analyse results before reaching conclusions.

Similarly, an economist studies economic activities, collects data, analyses trends, and develops theories to understand how economies function. A historian examines historical records, evaluates evidence, and interprets past events to understand their significance.

Therefore, becoming an expert in any field involves a combination of reading, observing, thinking critically, asking questions, conducting investigations, and gaining practical experience. Continuous learning and dedication are essential for success.


2. You must have read about cells and DNA in your science books. Discuss Richard Ebright's work in the light of what you have studied. If you get an opportunity to work like Richard Ebright on projects and experiments, which field would you like to work on and why?
